Event Description
Separation. Divorce. Bereavement. Redundancy. A big move. Children leaving home, illness, infertility, retirement. You've dealt with one of the most life-changing events it's possible to go through, and now it's time to get back on your feet. But when you look around, the people you thought would be a part of that journey just aren't there for you in the same way any more.
Sometimes life doesn't just change - it rearranges everything, including the friendships we once thought would see us through anything. If you've been through a major life transition and found yourself looking around thinking "what happened?" then you're not imagining it. Research shows that life upheavals can reshape our social circles almost overnight. Friendships that felt solid can drift or dry up, shared social lives are split down the middle, and the confidence to start again can feel impossibly out of reach.
This event isn't a pep talk about "putting yourself out there." This is a practical, evidence-based workshop for thoughtful, independent adults who want real strategies for moving past the hurt and rebuilding a thriving, supportive enjoyable friendship circle that feels good, and that actually fits who you are now.
Whether your life changed six months ago or six years ago, if you're ready to stop waiting for connection to find you and start building it with intention, this workshop is for you.
What You'll Learn
- Why your friendships have changed - and why it's not your fault. You'll understand the predictable patterns behind post-transition friendship loss, so you can stop taking it personally and start responding smartly instead.
- Which old friendships to let go of, and when to invest / try to reset. Not every old friendship is worth saving, and not every new connection is worth pursuing. You'll learn how to make these decisions with clarity rather than guilt.
- How to share the truth of your situation with new acquaintances in a way that feels authentic rather then cringe-worthy, and how to 'read' their reactions to help you know which new connections to pursue, and which to walk away from.
- The importance of prioritising activities and people that light you up - and how to do this.
- Why learning to acknowledge your grief / anger / disappointment / frustration is one of the most powerful things you can do for your future friendships.
You'll Walk Away With...
- A clear-eyed picture of your current social landscape - who's really there for you, who isn't, and where you need to 'fill in the gaps.'
- A personalised action plan for your first 3 months of intentional friendship-building, tailored to your energy, your personality, and your life as it is right now.
- A framework for recognising unhealthy and / or lopsided dynamics early, so you invest your time and emotional energy in friendships that give back.
- The confidence that comes from understanding that rebuilding a social life is a learnable skill - not a personality trait you either have or you don't.

What To Expect
You'll be welcomed in to a safe, inclusive space full of people on the same learning journey as you. After a short introduction, we'll kick off! This session includes taught content as well as opportunities for discussion and Q&A. You can participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable - listen with your camera off, chime in on the chat, or share your questions and experiences on camera. You're in control, and there's no pressure to do or say more than you want to. Please note that this event WILL be recorded, and clips made available afterwards on social media and elsewhere. I will endeavour to ensure that permission is sought from anyone featured prior to sharing.
Who is it for?
Dare To Belong® events are open to anyone interested in learning more about friendship & connection in safe, welcoming space! These events tend attract thoughtful, reflective, independent types - most of whom are aged over 30 - people who like deep / interesting conversations, and prefer to connect in more stereotypically introverted / lower-key ways. But you don't have to be this demographic to attend - if the topic sounds interesting and useful to you, then you are very welcome!
Your Facilitator
Hannah Carmichael OBE is a yoga-loving mum-of-one with ADHD and a serious coffee addiction. She's also a leading friendship and connection coach with years of experience in helping thoughtful, kind, independent people build meaningful friendships that last. As a reformed 'awkward type,' Hannah loves nothing more than to see those she works with find the confidence to be their authentic selves, while building vibrant, wholehearted connections into their lives.
