"Why Am I Making All The Effort?" Why Your Friendships Feel One-Sided (And How To Change This)

Time: 12.00 - 1.30pm (GMT / UK time)

Date: Wednesday 4th March 2026

Location: Online via Zoom

Learn how to overcome the slow drain of friendships which take more than they give back. With practical tools from a leading expert.

If you...

  • Are always the one who reaches out first.
  • Are the one who remembers birthdays, suggests plans, follows up.
  • Are usually the one checking in, asking how they are, making sure everyone's okay

...and yet somehow, you feel lonelier inside these friendships than you did before you were in them, then this workshop is for you.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone — and you're not imagining it.

***Get my '8 types of one-sided friendship' guide now!***

One-sided friendships are one of the most common - and most painful - friendship struggles that thoughtful, kind, loyal people face. Sometimes it's about mismatched communication styles, unclear expectations, overwhelm, or patterns we've accidentally created without realising it. Sometimes, it's much more unpleasant - that we really are being taken for granted by the other person.

The painful truth is that you're doing all the work, and nobody seems to notice.

It's not just tiring. It's heartbreaking. You show up. You care. You invest. And in return, you get silence when you need support. Forgotten milestones, uncelebrated achievements. The slow, dawning realisation that if you stopped reaching out, these friendships would simply disappear.

In this workshop, we'll explore why friendships can feel so unbalanced, what's really going on beneath the surface, and - most importantly - what you can actually do to shift the dynamic without feeling like you're issuing ultimatums or playing games.

You'll leave with practical strategies for creating more reciprocal relationships, plus clarity on when a friendship is worth the effort to rebalance, and when it might be time to redirect your energy elsewhere.

This 90-minute workshop will help you:

  • Understand why caring people end up in one-sided dynamics — and how to stop the pattern
  • Recognise the real signs of friendship imbalance (it's not just about who texts first)
  • Identify which friendships are worth investing in and which are quietly draining you
  • Learn practical strategies to rebalance existing friendships without confrontation or drama
  • Build the confidence to ask for what you need without feeling demanding or needy
  • Create a friendship approach that honours your generosity without leaving you exhausted

This workshop is for you if:

  • You're tired of being everyone's emotional support but having no one show up for you
  • You feel guilty for wanting reciprocity because 'good friends shouldn't keep score'
  • You're wondering if it's too late to fix friendships that have become unbalanced
  • You want friendships where you feel seen, not just useful

Who Are These Events For?

Dare To Belong® events are open to anyone interested in learning more about friendship & connection in safe, welcoming space! They tend to attract thoughtful, reflective, independent types - most of whom are aged over 30 - people who like deep / interesting conversations, and prefer to connect in more stereotypically introverted / lower-key ways. But you don't have to be this demographic to attend - if the topic sounds interesting and useful to you, then you are very welcome!
